Dr. Kody was raised in Lebanon and attended East Linn Christian Academy through high school, where he graduated from in 2013, following which he attended Oregon State University for college finishing in 2016. He was then accepted to Oregon Health and Sciences Universityfor dental school that winter.

Dr. Kody began school at OHSU in the late summer of 2017, as a third-generation legacy of the school’s program, excited to be attending a school historically known for producing highly skilled clinicians. He graduated in 2021 with honor and was grateful to have spent four years learning from and with many respected instructors and colleagues of both extraordinary clinical skill and knowledge. Dr. Kody decided to move to the Boise, Idaho area following graduation. He spent a year working in a busy practice providing care in all facets of general dentistry. While he enjoyed his time living there, he decided to return home and join his father in practice in Lebanon.

Quite literally growing up in and around traditional family dental practice has helped shape the philosophy of care Dr. Kody strives to maintain in practice today. He wants every patient to feel comfortable and at ease, earning their trust by providing detailed explanations when necessary and always providing honest advice and options for all patients’ unique concerns and conditions. Whether you require a little “TLC” or prefer to be “in-and-out”, he’s always happy to accommodate you the best he possibly can. He enjoys meeting new people and appreciates opportunities to talk with patients about more than just dentistry, whenever possible.

Dental Filling provided by Osborne Dentistry in Lebanon, OR

A 3d rendering of dental fillings on back teeth The best way to maintain a healthy and functional smile is by using good oral hygiene practices and receiving regular professional cleanings. However, if you have already begun to experience decay or dental pain, then you may be in need of restorative treatment to get you back on track. Our team at Osborne Dentistry can repair minor decay or chips through the use of a dental filling.

Fillings are one of our most commonly used and popular dental restorations due to their affordability and easy installation. Since fillings can only be used to repair minor issues, it is important that you do not delay treatment and allow the condition to worsen. By receiving prompt treatment when you experience decay or tooth damage, you will improve the outcome of your treatment.

How Are Fillings Installed?

Dental fillings are perhaps the simplest restorative treatment available. If our team locates a cavity that is small enough to be fixed with a filling, we will let you know and help you pick the right filling material. There are several materials available, each of which varies in durability.

Once you have selected the material, your dental team will administer a local anesthetic. We will then carefully drill out the decayed material. After the damaged material is gone, we will clean the area to ensure it is free from bacteria or debris. The last step is to pack the void with the filling material.

Of the filling materials available, silver amalgam is probably the most popular since it is both affordable and durable. However, it will also have a grayish, silver coloration that will not blend in with your natural tooth. If you want a color-matched filling, then you will need to go with either a composite material or a porcelain filling. These materials will blend seamlessly and are a great option for your front teeth that are easily visible when talking and smiling.

How Long Do Fillings Last?

Despite being extremely simple, fillings generally last for many years. A filling will last anywhere from seven to 20 years. The longest-lasting fillings are made from gold or porcelain.

What Happens If My Filling Falls Out?

If your filling fails or has begun to fail, our team will recommend that it be replaced. If your tooth is in good overall health and has not suffered new decay or damage, then the old filling can be replaced with yet another filling. On the other hand, a tooth that has become further damaged may require the use of other restorations, such as a dental crown.

When a filling begins to chip, it can allow bacteria and food debris to become trapped underneath it, which results in decay. That is just one of many reasons why it is important that you receive regular oral exams and cleanings. During your exams, our team will inspect any fillings or other restorations to ensure that they are functioning properly.

If you think that you may need a filling or other restoration, then you should come to see our professionals at Osborne Dentistry. You can schedule your appointment by contacting our office at 541-451-4300.
